Statement of Primary Purpose:
A part-time instructor will conduct college courses for undergraduate students by performing the following duties.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Teaching and Learning:

  • Facilitate the learning process by designing and implementing instructional activities that are appropriate and meaningful.
  • Adhere to the departmental course guidelines and ensure that content covers SACS-approved competencies.
  • Fulfill the duties of clinical or lab instructor in supervision of students as applicable.
  • Assume responsibility for maintaining all required college records including attendance and grade reports, roll books, etc.
  • Compile bibliographies of specialized materials for outside reading assignments where applicable.
  • Evaluate student performance using methods appropriate to the course.
Curriculum Development:
  • Make recommendations to curriculum area coordinator for selection of supplies, equipment, equipment repairs, textbooks for courses of study, and the scheduling of classroom and laboratory facilities.
  • Work collaboratively as a team-member to assure consistent and sequential instruction of program level learning outcomes.
  • Develop, assess, and report course level learning outcomes in a timely and efficient manner.
    Professional Development:   
  • Maintain current licensure, certification, or other professional credentials required for position.

Minimum Qualifications


A Master's degree (M.S. or M.Ed.) in Child Development, early Childhood, or Elementary Education with 18 graduate hours in the field.  Two years teaching experience at the college level preferred.  3-5 years teaching children 5 and under is preferred.

Knowledge and Skills
Knowledge in a traditional and/or distance learning environment.  Knowledge of the Moodle Learning Management System is preferred.  Strong oral and written communication skills; ability to work independently with minimal supervision and willing to accept traditional and/or distant learning evening teaching assignments asd needed by the institution.

Working Conditions and Environment (i.e., necessary travel, unusual work hours, unusual environmental conditions, etc.)

Ability to accommodate a flexible working schedule. Limited travel within service area.

This position description covers the most essential functions and duties associated with this position.  Other duties may be assigned by the President or appropriate supervisory personnel.  The College reserves the right to alter duties, responsibilities, conditions, working hours, and job title as necessary.
