Description

The Director of Network, Security and Information Systems is an essential part of Carteret Community College. This position will have hands on network, security, budget, leadership, and process improvement responsibilities. The director will coordinate assigned activities with other divisions, departments, and outside agencies and provide highly responsible and complex administrative support to the Vice President for Finance and Administrative Services. Responsibilities include hands on system administration of the College’s computer systems, servers, network infrastructure, and telephone system which include all systems running Active Directory, Suse Linux, and Microsoft Windows operating system.  The director maintains and supports all application programs and databases residing on all systems and servers.   Salary commensurate with experience and education background within college’s pay range.  Open to Filled.  Previous applicants must re-apply to be considered.  Equal Employment Opportunity Institution.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Actively involved and hands on with development, planning and implementation of an integrated structure of hardware, and software. Stays abreast of leading technology and makes recommendations for future infrastructure needs of the college annually through the budget and strategic planning process.
  • Manages the infrastructure and security of all communications.  Knowledge and understanding of the function of IT auditors and their review of college information systems.
  • Must work closely with the North Carolina Community College System Office and college-based communications network linking the college to the North Carolina Community College System and other entities to which the college reports.
  • Coordinates with internal and external stakeholders to meet the program needs at the college related to information technology, media, networking, systems implementation, emergency management systems and telecommunications. Ability to identify and promote opportunities for the use of emerging technologies, to support excellence in teaching and learning, and to improve support services for students, faculty, and staff.
  • Budget manager and developer for the network technology budget. Handles contract administration, and policy development. Provides oversight and review of the System Administrator’s information technology budget.
  • Selects, trains, motivates,andevaluatespersonnel,and coordinatesstaff training. Workswith employeestocorrect deficienciesinperformance. Will be responsible for ensuring cross training on network, security and information systems.
  • Responsible for all centralized and distributed technology, including voice & data communication.
  • Assists in the design of multi-server environments including IP address schemes, DNS, DHCP, etc. Troubleshoots malfunctions of network hardware and software applications.
  • Ensures compliance with laws and regulations, data integrity, availability, security and confidentiality including systems documentation, quality assurance and business continuity solutions. Ability to formulate, and administer Carteret Community College policies and procedures, in the overall administration and execution of network, security and information technology.
  • Provides leadership for the technical management of the college’s website and for technical support for the colleges distance education programs.

Minimum Qualifications
 
Education
 
Requires a broad and in-depth knowledge normally acquired through a minimum of five years systems administration and CISCO networking experience. Attainment of an associates or a bachelor’s degree in computer science, management information systems, information technology or related field.
 
Knowledge and Skills
Leadership in an educational environment, networking and security system experience. Maintenance security through proper configuration of VPN and Firewalls. Familiarity with virtualization, IIS, AD, LDAP and Microsoft Windows server administration knowledge. Experience supervising operations and personnel.  Microsoft Office products. Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Licensing Requirement
Preferred MCSE Certification (Microsoft Certification Program)and/or Cisco Network Security Technician (CCNA Security)
 

 

 
Working Conditions and Environment(i.e., necessary travel, unusual work hours, unusual environmental conditions, etc.)
 
Work is carried out in a standard heated and air conditioned area in a public area located in the Michael J Smith building.  There will be frequent interruptions both from students and the public.  Some evening work may be required. Travel is minimal but is necessary for training purposes. Some work requires a quiet system and has to be accomplished during other hours than normal.
