Description
Evening Library Technician - 20 Hours Per Week 
 
Statement of Primary Purpose
The Evening Library Technician maintains the serials collection and provides circulation and reference services to library patrons during the evening hours.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Serials Collection: recording and processing new issues; placing claims for missing and duplicate issues with serials vendor; maintaining and weeding the back issues in serial storage; and updating the Magazine Index annually.
  • Circulation Services: providing coverage for the circulation desk in the evenings. Circulation duties include registering new patrons; circulating library materials and reserves; providing passwords for home access to electronic databases; assisting with the photocopier; transmitting faxes; collecting library fees and fines; and signing in patrons for computer use.
  • Reference Services: answering research questions, using and navigating the library’s databases, locating library materials, and providing technical assistance for the library’s computers.
  • Shelving library materials and (periodically) shelf reading to maintain order in the library’s collections.
  • Assisting with the acquisition of new library materials.
  • Assisting with the annual inventory.
  • Participating in library materials selection.
Additional Duties and Responsibilities
  • Create monthly bulletin board displays and update signage for exhibits.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Education Associate of Arts degree in Library Technology, Office Technology, or other related field
Knowledge and Skills Two years library experience. Knowledge of library automation systems and computer systems. Knowledge of Internet searching, online databases, and e-mail.  Excellent oral and written communication skills. Excellent customer service skills. Experience with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Power Point, and Access.
Physical Demands Must be able to meet the physical demands associated with traditional library tasks.
Licensing Requirement  
 
Working Conditions and Environment (i.e., necessary travel, unusual work hours, unusual environmental conditions, etc.)
Monday – Thursday, 4:30 p.m.-9:30 p.m.
