Description

General Maintenance Mechanic needed at Carteret Community College in Morehead City:  MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Must possess a high school diploma or equivalency Two to four years of experience in the performance of the full range of journey level tasks associated with two or more highly complex mechanical or building trades, or an equivalent combination of training and experience, knowledge of local, state, and national codes pertaining to assigned trades and ability to perform the trades at journey level, must be able to lift 50 lbs, and must pass a background check from N.C. Dept. of Corrections and to take their training on inmate supervision.  Permanent full-time position; hiring salary range: $2,130.00 to $2,335.00 monthly.

General Maintenance Mechanic (Plant Operations)
Statement of Primary Purpose
The General Maintenance Mechanic performs highly skilled maintenance and repair.  Plumbing, heating/cooling, carpentry, electrical systems, preventative maintenance, and painting; familiar with blue prints reading, standard concepts, practices, codes and procedures; performs advanced technical duties; responds to emergencies during off-duty times as needed.
 
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Must be able to work closely in conjunction with the Facilities Manager, members of the custodial staff, and other members of the maintenance staff.
  • Attend departmental meetings.
  • Follow through to completion of work orders.
  • Periodic reports dealing with preventative maintenance, inspections, inventory and time sheet.
  • Must be able to work closely and direct inmates.
  • Occasionally assist with set-up and clean up of College events.

Dept. of Corrections and to take their training on inmate supervision.
Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. The employee is regularly required to use power tools and hand tools.  The employee frequently is required to walk, stand, climb ladders, and crawl in small, confined spaces.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and work in elevated locations up to 50 feet.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.  The employee is exposed to outside weather conditions.  The noise level in the work environment is sometimes noisy, and may require personal protective equipment.
Licensing Requirement Valid North Carolina Driver’s License
