Payroll Accountant needed at Carteret Community College in Morehead City:  MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field is required.  Successful candidate must have two years of experience working with payroll.  Candidate must have the ability to communicate effectively with faculty, staff, students, and the general public. Must be self-directed with the ability to investigate and solve practical problems without direct instruction or supervision. The position requires strong computer skills which include mainframe (Datatel/Ellucian experience preferred), spreadsheet and word processing capabilities. Must have the ability to use a 10-key calculator with a high degree of accuracy; the ability to utilize mathematic formulas (add, subtract, multiply and divide), and the ability to follow verbal and written instructions.  Permanent full-time position; hiring salary range: $2,468.00 to $2,855.00 monthly.  Deadline for applying is March 1, 2013.    Equal Employment Opportunity Institution
 
 
Payroll Accountant
Statement of Primary Purpose
Employees in this position perform professional accounting and financial work within the Finance department and under general supervision process payroll. Responsible for accounting functions in order to produce payroll documents and all associated transactions and processes.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Coordinate the monthly payroll process to ensure accuracy and timeliness of all payments.
  • Compute and balance the monthly payroll for the college; print and sign payroll checks and direct deposit advices; audit leave and payroll records ensuring compliance with college policies, procedures, and regulations; prepare and balance payroll reports.
  • Process personnel and payroll transactions making appropriate adjustments to the college’s payroll system; coordinate payroll information with the human resource office.
  • Process and calculate a variety of payroll actions including wage garnishments, incentive pay, benefits withholding, overtime hours, and workers compensation claims; oversee distribution of payroll checks.
  • Prepare and distribute various reports and paperwork related to the payroll function; verify and distribute employee deduction checks to appropriate vendors; verify employee and employer wages subject to Federal and State taxes, FICA, and retirement deductions.
  • Prepare quarterly tax reports for distribution to various governmental agencies; balance, print, and oversee distribution of W-2 forms for college employees; assist with all year-end reports related to payroll.
  • Responsible for completing bank reconciliations in a timely manner
  • Back up support for the Controller in her absence with monthly, quarterly and annual reports for all funds.
Additional Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist with internal and external audits.
  • Assist employees with questions regarding payroll deductions and salaries.
  • Assist with and participate in the student registration process.
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
Minimum Qualifications

Working Conditions and Environment
Work is carried out in a standard heated and air conditioned area in a public area located in the H.J. McGee building.  There will be frequent interruptions both from students and the public.  Some evening work may be required
